So what is the best piano to buy? First of all, let’s be clear on the different types of piano. They come under two broad categories:
- Acoustic Pianos (including upright and grand pianos)
- Digital Pianos
The best piano to buy really depends on your individual circumstances – budget, space, playing style etc.

So what is the best piano to buy?
Acoustic Pianos
If you can afford it and have the space, I would always go for an acoustic piano. Digital pianos are extremely realistic these days in sound and touch, but they still can’t compare to the real thing. However, you need to know what you are buying if you want an acoustic piano as there are many not so good ones out there!
Mark Goodwin from Mark Goodwin Pianos has written a very informative article with recommendations for every budget. Mark and his wife Julie absolutely love all things piano and will do everything they can to help you find the perfect one! See his article which piano should I buy here.

Digital Pianos
If an acoustic piano is beyond your budget, then it’s worth investing in a decent digital piano.
Digital pianos are a great option for many people as they are more affordable, take up less room, are portable and can be used with headphones. They also have the ability to record and playback so you can listen to and learn from your own performance. Plus the fact, you won’t have any expensive tuning or repair bills!
A digital piano with full-sized weighted keys is a must. For a whole lot more information on digital pianos and which ones to buy, see my blog post below:
